20 years after the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, the most important event of the winter sport world is again taking place in Italy. Ski jumpers will battle for the medals on the newly renovated hills in Predazzo. All Things Snow tells you all you need to know before the ski jumping competitions.

Schedule
Six medal competitions will take place in ski jumping on the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics, that will span from 7 to 16 February. For the first time ever, the men’s team event will not take place, as it was replaced by the super team competition. In super team, two jumpers make up a team, instead of the classic four. Also for the first time, the women will compete on the large hill, as well as on the normal one.

Writer’s picks
Ski jumping is the only sport, where the clear favourites for gold are siblings. Domen and Nika Prevc have been dominating in the World Cup so far, as they won 11 and 13 individual competitions respectively. Domen’s form has been steadily growing since the World Cup event in Wisła, and after an impressive Four Hills Tournament, as well as winning the gold in the Ski Flying World Championships, in my opinion he is going to win gold in both normal and large hill competitions. It was similar for Nika, as she started the season on a similar level as Nozomi Maruyama, but as it progressed she showed that she is a level abone the Japanese skier. I also think that she is going to complete a double in Predazzo.
Ren Nikaido of Japan will, in my opinion, become a silver medalist of the large hill event. In the World Cup events in Willingen, he was really the only one that could in some way keep up with Domen Prevc. I think that he is gonna be joined on the podium by Stephan Embacher. The Junior World Champion maybe did not score podiums in the recent World Cup events, but I think that he is one of the best jumpers in terms of keeping emotions at bay.
For women, I think that silver and bronze on the large hill will go to Eirin Maria Kvandal and Nozomi Maruyama respectively. The Norwegian feels very well on the large hills, and she demonstrated that by winning both of the World Cup competition on the HS147 hill in Willingen. Maruyama’s form is not as good as it was in the beginning of the season, but she still regularly scores podiums on the large hills.
Coming to the normal hill, I think that Ryoyu Kobayashi will score silver medal on that hill, followed in third by Philipp Raimund. The Japanese jumper showed, that his form is growing with a podium in Sapporo. He also finished third on the Olympic normal hill during the test event in the summer. Raimund on the other hand scored a podium in Willingen, and he has showed his great normal hill form by winning one of the Grand Prix competitions in Hinzenbach, as well as securing a third place in the sole World Cup normal hill event in Falun.
Lisa Eder is my pick for the silver medal in the women’s normal hill event. Eder was the only jumper to be able to match Prevc’s form in the two normal hill World Cup events in Ljubno and Villach. She also surprised everyone with a win in Zao, while Prevc finished second. Third is going to be a surprise in my opinion, as I pick Abigail Strate for that spot. The Canadian scored two World Cup podiums recently, although they happened on the large hill. Still, she can achieve good results on the normal hill, as she demonstrated that with a third place finish in Zao.
Now it is time for the team events. In my opinion, Slovenia is going to finish ahead of Austria and Japan in the men’s super team. The only gold medal that will not go to Slovenia in my opinion will be the mixed team one, as it is gonna be scored by Japan, ahead of Slovenia and Germany. I think that Slovenia lacks a good enough female part of their mixed team, while Japan has jumpers like Maruyama or Takanashi.
